Fun on the Fourth!

4th of July FREE-dom Weekend Wayne County, OHIO

We like to say that we’ve put the FREE in Freedom this year.

Celebrate the July 4th holiday weekend at one of our many community events.         The best part, no admission cost!

June 30        Music at the Bandstand-Doylestown
Concerts are free and open to the public. The June 30th concert features The                               Juke Hounds at 7pm. Food Trucks will be available.
July 1           Benefit Quilt Auction-Kidron Auction
Annual auction benefitting the Ohio Crippled Children’s Fund. Breakfast is
served at 6:30am (charge) followed by the auction at 9am. Auction features                                 furniture, over 100 locally-made quilts, buggies, harnesses, grandfather clock                             and more.
July 1           Weekly Farmers Market-Downtown Wooster
Locally grown vegetables, flowers and baked goods. 8AM-NOON. Good chance                           you’ll find just what you need for the family cookout
July 1-2       Cowboy Mounted Shooters at the Wayne County Fairgrounds
Watch these cowboys and cowgirls, dressed in movie style western wear,                                        compete in timed shooting matches on horseback. Friday evening at 7:30pm,                           Saturday and Sunday mornings at 10am. Great fun for the kids.
July 4           Ohio Light Opera Community Pops Concert-Downtown Wooster
Bring a chair and join in the festivities. A community pre-firework tradition                                   presented  by Main Street Wooster and The Ohio Light Opera at 7pm.
July 4           Fredericksburg Independence Day Parade
Billed as “Wayne County’s Biggest Small Town Parade.” The Village of                                             Fredericksburg invites you to their hometown parade that steps off at 11 am.

July 4          Wooster Community Fireworks Celebration
The festival grounds, at the soccer field at Oldman and Kinney Roads, activities                         start at 5pm with food, entertainment, and family fun. Bring your blanket to                                 stake out your spot for the fireworks at 10pm.
July 4-8     Orrville Firefighters Independence Day Celebration & Parade
Annual festival complete with a parade July 4th at 4pm and fireworks July 8th at                       10:15pm. Enjoy this hometown family fun festival.

Summer vacation is over and the kids are heading back to school. It’s getting darker earlier and morning temperatures are cooler. High School Football is in the news and sweaters and sweatshirts are part of our wardrobe again. Where did summer go?

Not to fear, there are plenty of fun times ahead as the 167th Annual Wayne County Fair opens their gates on September 10th, 2016 for six days of fresh off the farm fun and entertainment.

Fair admission is still just $3.00 per person, with children 6 & under free. Senior Citizen Day for those 65 and over is Thursday with free admission until 4:00pm. Unlimited ride passes are available daily as well as single ride tickets.

In addition to the outstanding lineup at the grandstand be sure to check out the various animal shows and judging, flowers & vegetable judging, baking contests, fiddling contests, area school band show, harness races, mounted shooters, square dance, and car and tractor shows, just to name a few. Add in over 100 business and service organization booths and just about every form of county fair cuisine imaginable and you will see why the Wayne County Fair is billed as Ohio’s Foremost Agricultural Fair.
With an annual attendance of over 150,000 last year they must be doing something right!

Help us kick-off the July 4th holiday with this free patriotic concert on the square in Historic Downtown Wooster at 7pm. Please bring a lawn chair.

 June 29-July 3   Orrville Firefighters Independence Day Celebration & Parade       Annual festival complete with a parade June 29th at 7pm and fireworks July 3rd at 10:15pm. Family fun festival, Firecracker 5k Run and softball tournament.

Secrest Arboretum, part of The Ohio State University’s Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, is the perfect place to view the changing colors. Open daily from dawn to dusk, you are invited to hike or bike the many trails or take a leisurely stroll through one of its gardens.

You can make friends with the farm animals, get lost in one of their many mazes, shoot a potato in the spud slinger, take a hayride into the fields to pick the perfect pumpkin or just sit back and enjoy the scenery while munching on a bag of freshly made potato chips.
